Campion, Marsh Lane

Although not a passivhaus our house is, we think, pretty interesting and green. We have triple glazing, high levels of insulation, solar panels, an air source heat pump and battery. We also collect rainwater (when it rains!) in an underground tank to water the garden and flush the loos.

Tours and talks: We'd like to offer informal tours of the house and a chance for visitors to ask questions which we'll try to answer. We can also offer tea/coffee.

Downstairs is accessible, although Marsh Lane can be rough. Dogs welcome (we have a labrador). Teas and coffees and a chat.

Dunsford retro fit to a modern house

Southwood House is just inside the Dartmoor National Park and was built in 2004 to standards of the day. We moved in during 2005 and have subsequently fitted:- secondary glassing to the existing double glassing on all front/south facing windows; extra cavity wall and loft insulation; a home EV charger; PV panels on the roof; a Tesla battery and a high temperature air source heat pump. The latter, while more expensive than a standard ASHP, meant the installation was simple, existing radiators were used and no under floor heating was necessary. It is critical to research options and have a detailed understanding of your heating needs before fitting a heat pump.

Hillcrest Passive Solar Ecohome

Hillcrest is a beautiful architect designed 4 bed Ecohome that is now 18yrs old but still very contemporary. It displays all the sustainable design features you need to perform really well in our fast changing climate, incl bore water, ground source heat, solar gain & thermal mass, areas for growing your own fruit and Veg, wildlife meadow & flower garden. Being new owners we are in the throes of adding additional future-proofing features very relevant for now, incl plentiful rainwater tanks, Solar PV, a new orchard, wildlife ponds, EV charger, and more. The property commands gorgeous views nestled against broadleaved woodland on a hilltop, and is within easy cycle commute distance of Exeter!

Parking available in layby just outside property entrance (W3W ///unicorns.dampen.ants). No dogs- (can be left in car) Not wheelchair accessible (multiple internal & external changes of height) .

Teign Valley Community Hall

A large 1990s community hall retrofitted with insulation, solar PV, battery, heat pumps, HVAC heat recovery ventilation system and smart controls. Includes aircon cooling in main sports hall. It's an example of how successful the three underlying principles of 'fabric first', 'energy efficient heating' and 'ventilation control' can be. There is one 14kW air to water heat pump serving radiators with smart valves plus a pair of two 14kW air to air heat pumps for the large HVAC system. There are also other energy saving features such as small, local hot water supplies on timers (probably the most effective energy saver of all for our hall). The nearby grade II listed cottage ‘Barn End’ is also open as a contrasting companion visit, timed so you can visit both.
